CBD short for cannabidol is a natural byproduct/ chemical present in the Cannabis Sativa plant. The Cannabis Sativa plant has been known to possess over 500 chemicals, known as cannabinoids one amongst which is Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the most famous ingredient in cannabis, and also gives it the popular conception associated with Cannabis. It is important that one understands the difference between the two compounds in order to ward off any doubts or suspicions as to the efficacy of the product they are consuming. Since they are both found in the same variety of plant, CBD and THC have similar chemical compositions with a major difference that CBD does not produce the “euphoric high†which is considered addictive and generally associated with THC or Marijuana. Consuming CBD oil does not lead to altered psychoactive activity in the brain, nor does it lead to enhanced dopamine production, changed sensory perception or any of the symptoms associated with the use of Marijuana. CBD oil is generally extracted from Hemp, which refers to any Cannabis plant variety that contains less than 0.3% THC. Known for its medicinal uses, CBD is a treatment gaining popularity for being able to relieve symptoms of anxiety, insomnia, nerve pain and various neurological disorders.Â
THC interacts with CB1 receptors in the brain, which is the area primarily responsible for controlling mood, memory, cognition, coordination and pleasure. The activation of CB1 receptors in the brain is mainly responsible for the feeling of a “euphoric highâ€, altered memory and cognition and an enhanced feeling of pleasure. THC also interacts with CB1 receptors in various other parts of the brain thus increasing appetite, and making some people anxious while others calm. CBD on the other hand reacts with the ECS system of the brain, a complex network of receptors, enzymes, and endocannabinoids that control various physiological processes. CBD interacts primarily with CB2 receptors, along with CB1 receptors, that are found not only in the brain but throughout the body especially in our immune cells. Unlike THC, CBD does not bind directly with these receptors and only influences them only indirectly. Since CBD oil is extracted from the plant and dilute before consumption in another carrier oil, it becomes easily absorbable by the body, especially when taken sublingually.Â
CBD oil is gaining raging popularity for being able to cure symptoms of insomnia, severe anxiety disorder, pains and inflammation in the body, chronic pain, arthritis, and added to that CBD oil can help you win over addictions and also helps manage symptoms of drug withdrawal. CBD has shown evidence in being able to help with epilepsy, seizures, and Alzheimer's, and also has antipsychotic properties. CBD oil is rich in omega fatty acids, Vitamin E and Vitamin A; it also contains chlorophyll who helps with clearing the skin, weight loss and detoxification.Â
